Charity representatives collect donations from NCB
Students make a difference to others

Staff and students at New Campus Basildon raised over £250 for four very worthy causes during their charity week celebrations. The money will be split between Help for Heroes, Cancer Research UK, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Motor Neurone Disease Association.
“We chose these charities because they help so many people and a lot of people at NCB have been affected by the causes they help. I am a big fan of the charities because my Nan and Grandad survived cancer with help from Cancer Research UK, a friend at school was helped by Great Ormond Street Hospital and I know people who are in the army who Help for Heroes support.”

Representatives from Help for Heroes, Cancer Research UK and Great Ormond Street visited the College recently to collect the donations and talk to students about the difference that the money will make to the people who are helped by each of the organisations.
“Thank you to each and every one of you for the money you have raised. Cancer Research UK is all about saving lives so with this donation you are all lifesavers and should be extremely proud of what you have done. All fundraising goes towards finding the causes of cancer, treating cancer and trying to prevent cancer. More people than ever are surviving now and it’s all thanks to enthusiastic and passionate people like you, who are willing to help and make a difference.”

To raise the money NCB hosted events during charity week from 14-18 December including face painting, karaoke and dance mat, cake sales, a staff versus student’s musical chairs game and fancy dress theme days. Business Studies students organised a fun fete with some great prizes, kindly donated from local businesses.
“It’s really good that people from the charities came in to accept the money because we learnt a lot more about the work the charities do and I’m really pleased to know how the money will be used to help other people.”
NCB student Stephanie Wright
“Thank you so much for thinking of us in your fund-raising. The money will be put towards helping to rebuild and refurbish the hospital, buy vital equipment and fund pioneering research. It’s with help like this we are able to provide world class care to our very ill children and their families.”
Judy Kuhl, Great Ormond Street Hospital
Business Studies students arranged the presentation event as part of their course, which involves planning and managing an event. They contacted the charities to invite them to the College, set the plan for the day and hosted the event. The day was very successful and well organised by the students.
