NCB Students find out what life can hold after College
Students encouraged to aim higher

Students at New Campus Basildon met with representatives from various organisations at a recent progression day held at the College. The students were able to find out more about career paths and further education choices that are available for them after College.
“Today has been really useful for me. I didn’t know much about UCAS and how to apply to University but have found out all about that today. I’m glad that the armed forces are here as well because I’m thinking of joining the Army after I have finished studying.”
Ryan Elms, Business Studies student
Organisations that attended the event included; Essex County Council, University of East Anglia, Anglia Ruskin University, Learning and Skills Council, Essex Police, The Army, RAF, Jobcentre Plus, The Prince’s Trust and Connexions. Some of the organisations gave presentations to the students about what they do and spoke to the students about what they could achieve.
“I have had a really good day so far. Today I have applied for an apprenticeship in Business so that I can go to university after. I spoke to Anglia Ruskin University and found out that they have a campus in Cambridge, which I am really happy about as I have family that live there. Today has helped me make my mind up that I want to go to university and study for a degree in Business.”

Tanya Partridge, Head of Student Services at SEEVIC College gave a motivational speech to inspire the students to aim higher. Young Ambassadors Joe Jansinki and Chris Loftus from the Prince’s Trust also spoke to students about the opportunities they have been given and talk about real life experiences.
“We have had a really good response from the students today. We came to talk to them about the alternative options that are available for them to get into training and employment. We are the largest youth organisation in the UK and help over 25,000 young people every year. We help them with things such as starting their own businesses, getting into training, team building, community work and gaining qualifications.”
Niki Bray, promoter for the Prince’s Trust
“The careers day has been really successful. There have been talks from some very interesting people especially the University of East Anglia, who spoke about Student Life and what it’s really like to go to University. The event has raised our student’s aspirations and given them knowledge and advice regarding support and the different routes and options that are out there. It’s been a real eye-opener in showing them that they can reach their goals and that there are always people here at NCB who can help them. I was also very proud of the way our students interacted with the facilitators on the day, which gave a positive impact. I was honored to be a part of the whole experience.”
